Current Objectives

The Trust's present-day objectives may be summarized as follows:

(a)  To maintain, protect, improve and develop the River Clyde and its tributaries upstream of the Erskine Bridge as a fishery for the good of the public.        

(This is the core objective from the original Memorandum of Association.)

(b)  To promote improvement of the habitat of fish species within the catchments, action being based on relevant scientific research and, where appropriate, in partnership with the Clyde River Foundation.

(c)  To use all available means to enhance the existing arrangements for protecting all parts of the fishery from predation through illegal fishing.

(d)  To provide effective, collective representation of members in dealings with the Scottish Executive, the Crown Estates, Unitary Authorities, SEPA, Scottish Water, Scottish Natural Heritage et alia, and / or to assist and support individual members where appropriate.

(e)  To actively promote the RCFMT as a point of contact for organisations as (d) above, or other agencies whose activity may impact on river habitats, and to disseminate information to members as appropriate.

(f)  To encourage participation and representation at local and sub-catchment levels in parallel activities such as Local Biodiversity Action Groups or local authority projects.

(g)  To provide a regular forum in which members can discuss matters of mutual interest, resolve conflicts and pursue common objectives.
