Erosion

All rivers suffer from erosion, rivers are constantly moving position, and the process can take many years. Erosion is  natural and is the way that the gravels are replaced after big floods. Sections of river can be made sterile by to much interference from man. Lets say that half a mile of river is canalised by means of concrete edges. Where is there any cover for fish? How are gravels etc replaced in river bed?
Points of erosion can be stabilised simply by planting willow cuttings at the affetcted area, these grow very quickly and their intensive fibrous root system holds the soil together.
Current deflectors can be created from materials such as boulders, logs, old conifers which have turned brown, and which have lost their needles.
